Paris Mayor Hidalgo Calls Reports of Athletes Falling Ill After Swimming in the Seine 'Fake'

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo has dismissed claims that athletes at the 2024 Olympics in France fell ill after swimming in the Seine River as 'fake news'. Hidalgo shared her comments via BFMTV.

This response follows the hospitalization of Belgian triathlete Claire Michelet due to E. coli after competing in the individual triathlon events at the Games. Consequently, the Belgian national team had to withdraw from the mixed relay event.

There is no athlete who fell ill because of swimming in the Seine, nor has anyone withdrawn from competition due to swimming there; this is fake news and this has already been proven.

The Paris mayor further mentioned that the national Olympic committees of the participating countries have already confirmed the truth.

Hidalgo also noted, referencing RMC Sport, that the open water swimming events during the 2024 Summer Olympics will take place in the Seine.
