
The press service of the U.S. Figure Skating Association announced the death of Dick Button, a two-time Olympic champion in singles figure skating and a sports commentator, at the age of 95.
It was reported that Button passed away due to natural causes. The federation expressed its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the esteemed athlete, highlighting that Button's innovative skating style and his television work made a lasting legacy.
Button won gold medals at the Winter Games in 1948 in St. Moritz and in 1952 in Oslo. He was also a five-time world champion (1948-1952) and once triumphed at the European Championship (1948). Notably, Button was the first to land a double axel and a triple Rittberger in competition.
The former figure skater worked as a commentator for ABC Sports since 1962 and won an Emmy Award in 1981 as the best television analyst.
