Faith Cherotich has been in sensational form this season in the Diamond League, and the Kenyan steeplechaser has now laid her eyes on clinching the World title in Tokyo later this year.
The former World Junior champion beat Olympic Champion Winfred Yavi for the second time this season, as she clinched the Oslo leg of the World Athletics Diamond League on Thursday night.
Cherotich clocked a meeting record of 9:02.60, the fastest time in the world this year, to beat the Kenyan-turned Bahraini Yavi for the title. And, speaking to Telecomasia after the result, the 21-year-old, who clinched bronze at last year’s Olympics and the last Worlds in Budapest in 2023 believes she is ripe fore the title.
This year, my target is to win the World Championship. I believe I am in very good shape because I have started the season well and I feel strong and I have been running really well. I just need to continue working hard in training and performing well in my races to build that confidence and then I will fight and do my best to achieve my goal in Tokyo.
She believes she has been building on her confidence since transitioning to the seniors and is now ripe for success, just as she did while competing at the junior level.
