Kenyan Runner Chebet: 2024 Season Was Beyond My Wildest Dreams, and I Can’t Wait to Do More in 2025

Defending her World Cross Country Championship title, two Olympic gold medals, a Diamond Trophy – these, Beatrice Chebet says, were beyond her wildest dreams for the 2024 season. The 24-year old has enjoyed a spectacular year in athletics, and believes it only builds more confidence for her heading to the next season.

Chebet opened her season by defending her senior World Cross title in Belgrade, Serbia, and at the Olympic Games in Paris, won a historic double with the 5,000m and 10,000m titles.

In Brussels last week, she won the Diamond Trophy in the women’s 5,000m.

This was beyond my wildest dreams. I knew I wanted to achieve something great this season, but it has rolled on beyond my expectations. I can say I am really excited for what I have achieved this season. This now builds in more confidence heading to next year, that I can even do more.

Chebet says her ambition next year is to clinch the world title that evaded her last year, while she also has her eyes set on the World Record:

I have won the World Cross, Olympics and Commonwealth titles. The only one missing is the World title and next year, that is my big target. I also want to try and go for the world record in the 5,000m. I know it is not easy, but I believe I can do it.
