Japanese Gymnast Miyata Suspended From 2024 Olympics For Smoking At Training Camp

Japanese national gymnastics team captain Shoko Miyata will miss the 2024 Olympics in Paris due to a violation of Japanese law.

According to the Kyodo news agency, the 19-year-old athlete was investigated for smoking during a training camp. It is illegal for anyone under the age of 20 to smoke in Japan.

The Gymnastics Association of Japan suspended Miyata from the national team and initiated an internal investigation.

Miyata is a bronze medalist at the 2022 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Besides, the athlete won two silver medals and one bronze medal at the Asian Championships in 2022.

The Olympic Games-2024 in the French capital will be held from July 26 to August 11.
