FOX 29 reported that the funeral for NHL player Johnny Gaudreau of the Columbus Blue Jackets and his brother Matthew will take place on September 9 in their hometown of New Jersey.
The ceremony will be attended by family, friends, and concerned citizens. Earlier, on August 30, a tribute was held for the 31-year-old forward at the home arena of the Calgary Flames, the team where Gaudreau began his professional career. Thousands of fans also gathered in Columbus for a memorial service.
Johnny Gaudreau, 31, and his brother Matthew, 29, tragically lost their lives in a car accident on August 30. According to ESPN, the brothers, who were riding their bikes, were struck by an SUV driven by an intoxicated driver. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
In the 2023/2024 season, left winger Gaudreau played 81 games, scoring 60 points (12 goals and 48 assists). During the 2024 World Championship, the Columbus forward represented Team USA in eight games, accumulating 11 points (3 goals and 8 assists).
