Roman Kostomarov, the 2006 Olympic champion in ice dancing, is facing another amputation operation, according to the 5TV channel.
According to the source, the titled ice dancer is suffering from progressive necrosis of his hands and cannot bend his fingers. Doctors are trying to save the living tissue on the limbs to prevent another amputation.
Kostomarov previously had his left foot amputated due to necrosis and sepsis. It was reported that doctors were able to avoid amputation of the right leg by scraping away the dead tissue.
The 45-year-old former figure skater was hospitalized on January 10 with a severe form of pneumonia, Match TV reported. For a long time, Kostomarov had to be on ECMO and breathing machines, which led to peripheral vascular disease.
