Evans Chebet, the 2022 New York City Marathon champion says he wants to recapture his crown, after being confirmed in the elite field for this year’s showpiece, scheduled for November 3.
Chebet believes he has recovered well from an injury that slowed him down at the start of the year just after his third place finish at the Boston Marathon in April.
I had a small injury during the race in Boston but I still tried and finished in third place. I feel I have recovered well and my training has gone on really smoothly. I am really confident that I can win New York again. It is one of my favourite cities to race in and I am preparing really well for it.
Chebet,35, has a storied marathon career, having won Boston twice, finished third this year and also has a third place finish from Berlin.
In preparation for November’s New York Marathon, Chebet will compete at this weekend’s Great North Run in Great Britain, which he will use to test how well he has prepared.
It will be a good 10km course to run just to test myself in terms of speed and endurance. This will inform how I train for the next two months ahead of New York.
Also confirmed for New York is compatriots Albert Korir, Abel Kipchumba and Geoffrey Kamworor.
