The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has refused to grant the medal request of Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified from competing in the 2024 Olympics due to weight issues.
Phogat was unable to have a medal awarded to her after being disqualified and barred from participating in the finals of the 50 kg weight class competition.
The Indian athlete was 100 grams over the required weight limit before her match against American Sarah Hildebrandt. Instead of Phogat, the finals saw Cuban athlete Yusneylis Guzman, who had lost to Phogat in an earlier round.
Earlier, Jazmin Chiles, the sister of American gymnast Jordan Chiles, accused CAS judges of racism after Jordan was stripped of her medal through a court ruling that upheld a decision due to a technical error from the American team, which submitted its appeal four seconds late.
