Black Boxes of Crashed Aircraft with Figure Skaters Found in the U.S.

The press office of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced that divers have discovered the black boxes of the aircraft that crashed in the Potomac River near Washington, D.C.

The flight recorders have already been transported to the agency's laboratories for further analysis. Meanwhile, investigations and recovery operations are still ongoing.

The incident involved a passenger plane from American Airlines and a U.S. Army Sikorsky VH-60M Black Hawk helicopter, which collided on January 29 at 8:48 p.m. local time. As a result of the collision, both aircraft fell into the Potomac River near the U.S. capital.

There were 64 people aboard the airliner, including 60 passengers, including 1994 world figure skating champions Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, along with four crew members. The helicopter had three military personnel on board. On January 30, U.S. President Donald Trump stated in a CNN interview that there were no survivors from the crash. The International Skating Union (ISU) also expressed condolences and support to the families and friends of those on board on the same day.
