19-year-old Matilde Lorenzi, the Italian champion in giant slalom, tragically died during a training session on the slopes of Val Senales in the Alps.
The press service of the International Ski Federation (FIS) reported the tragedy and sent their condolences to the family and friends of the athlete.
Lorenzi lost control during a fast descent, veered off the track, and suffered a severe head injury. She was taken to Bolzano Hospital, but the doctors were unable to save her.
In 2024, Lorenzi became the Italian champion in giant slalom and placed sixth in downhill and eighth in super-G at the Junior World Championships.
