Former UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski addressed rumors claiming that his team was in discussions for a fight with Brazilian fighter Diego Lopez.
Volkanovski stated on his YouTube channel:
The Lopes thing, I don’t know where that came from. He obviously said ‘Let’s do it in Sydney,’ and I think people just ran with that. But there’s no talks of that at all. You never know, right? But yeah, obviously we’re fighting for the title.
Volkanovski's most recent fight was against Ilia Topuria in February of this year at UFC 298. In this bout, which was stopped in the second round, Alexander suffered a knockout loss and lost his UFC featherweight belt. His professional record stands at 26 wins and four losses.
Lopes last fought in the octagon against Brian Ortega this September at UFC 306. That fight went the full distance and ended with Diego winning by unanimous decision. He holds a record of 26 wins and six losses.
