Russian UFC fighter Umar Nurmagomedov stated his desire for a title fight in the lightweight division after defeating American Cory Sandhagen.
The UFC lightweight belt is currently held by Sean O'Malley, who will have to defend it against Merab Dvalishvili on September 15 at UFC 306 in Las Vegas.
Nurmagomedov said immediately after the fight:
Title shot. I don’t worry who’s going [to win between] these two. O’Malley, Merab, or someone else, it doesn’t matter. I’m here. Now guys, talk how I beat nobody. Cory No. 2 [ranked in the world]. Now you can cry, I’m coming for you.
Nurmagomedov and Sandhagen met on August 3 in the main event of UFC on ABC 7 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Umar won by unanimous decision on judges' scorecards. He has 18 wins and no losses on his record.
