UFC Champion Makhachev Responds to Next Opponent Question

UFC lightweight champion, Russian fighter Islam Makhachev, responded to questions about his next opponent following his victory over Brazilian Renato Moicano at UFC 311.

On January 19 in Los Angeles, Makhachev won against Moicano via submission in the first round.

Islam Makhachev's post-fight interview
For me it doesn’t matter. Who can make 155, just step to the cage and stay in front of me. I like this belt. It's not my job [to pick his next challenger]. If someone wants this belt, come to the cage. Makhachev stated in a post-fight interview.

Prior to this match, Makhachev competed in the octagon in June 2024 at UFC 302, defeating Dustin Poirier by submission (D'Arce choke) in the fifth round. He has a record of 27 wins and one loss.

Moicano's previous fight was in September 2024 at UFC Fight Night 243, where he won against Benoit Saint-Denis by technical knockout in the second round. His record includes 20 wins, six losses, and one draw.
