UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has reaffirmed that the fight against Sean O'Malley will be his last fight in the bantamweight division.
As a reminder, UFC 292 will take place on August 20 in Boston, with Sterling and O'Malley fighting in the main event.
Aljamain Sterling in an interview with MMA Hour
This is more likely my last fight at 135...There's a 99% chance of my last fight... Well, that's if I win for sure. I win this for sure, Ariel, I'm out of here, Come on. It’s Merab [Dvalishvili’s] time, man. I want to give him a place on the throne. But there's another reason: I'm gaining too much weight after fights, it's getting harder and harder to burn.
Sterling, 34, last stepped into the octagon against Henry Cejudo in May 2023 at UFC 288. That fight went the full distance and ended in Aljamain's favor by split decision of the judges. He has 23 wins and three losses under his belt.
O'Malley, 28, had a fight against Petr Yan at UFC 280 in October 2022. In this confrontation, Sean won by split decision of judges. He has 16 wins and one defeat on his record.
