UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling reflected on what he would like to do after his professional mixed martial arts career is over.
Sterling's next fight will be against the division's second-ranked Sean O'Malley at UFC 292 in Boston. It will be the fourth defense of the belt for Aljamain.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. I think I’m in that age where I haven’t made enough money. The motivation is still money and making my safety egg of when I retire – maybe coaching on the side, maybe being a school teacher, who knows? I think there’s a lot of opportunities that I have on the table, and then I’ve got my rum company that’s coming out. But I do think I have at least five more wins in me to hit that 20 win club in the UFC.
Sterling, 33, last stepped into the octagon against Henry Cejudo this past May at UFC 288. That fight went the full distance and ended in Aljamain's favor by split decision of the judges.
Sterling's debut fight in the strongest league took place in February 2014 at UFC 170. Then he faced his compatriot Cody Gibson. In this confrontation, Aljamain won by unanimous decision of the judges. He has 23 wins and three defeats under his belt.
O'Malley, 28, had a bout against Petr Yan at UFC 280 in October 2022. In this confrontation, Sean won by split decision of judges. He has 16 wins and one defeat under his belt.
