Former UFC fighter and analyst Chael Sonnen commented on Australian Robert Whittaker's desire to transition to the light heavyweight division of the world's top league.

The old expression ‘father time catches everyone,’ that’s not what’s happening with Whittaker. A great way to mask it is to go up in weight, because those guys are slower. There has always been the misconception that size is better. It doesn’t matter how many times it gets shown to the audience that size is a detractor. It got shown to the world Saturday in Fury vs. Usyk.
To recall, in October 2024, Whittaker lost to Khamzat Chimaev by submission (neck crank) in the first round at the co-main event of UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Prior to that, at UFC on ABC 6, Robert scored a first-round knockout against Russian Ikram Aliskerov. Whittaker has a record of 26 wins and eight losses.
