During a recent media conference, Russian UFC middleweight Sharaputdin Magomedov shared his thoughts on the philosophy of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, father of famous champion Khabib.
There was a major business forum in Dubai, attended by a Russian-speaking audience. One day, Khabib spoke at the forum, and I went to listen to him. It was very interesting. Their family has a long and remarkable story.
“Khabib's father sold cattle and used that money to build a gym. That’s where their legendary story began. We can see the result now. Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was a very wise man. Today we witness the depth of his words and teachings. He said that an athlete should mind three things: hairstyle, avoiding nightlife, and arriving for training on time.
“I’ve always had long hair. In my youth, I heard about Abdulmanap's gym, but my hairstyle was a problem. I once came to train with Khabib, but he wasn’t there. Nurmagomedov Sr. mentioned that a short haircut is necessary. With time, you start to understand why. Why do guys grow their hair long? To impress girls. But that’s not what an athlete needs. They don’t need to appeal to everyone, especially girls. They will come later when you’re on the podium, even if you don’t have a single hair on your head,” Magomedov said, as reported by Telecomasia.net.
To remind you, on February 1 at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Sharaputdin Magomedov will fight Michael Page in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 250.
Magomedov has a record of 15 wins and no losses, while Page has 22 wins and three losses.
