Former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua has withdrawn from his upcoming match against Yoel Romero, which was previously announced by the Global Fight League (GFL). Romero shared this news during an interview with Submission Radio.
According to Romero, former Bellator middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi has agreed to step in as Rua's replacement. Additionally, Yoel noted that his fight with Mousasi is set to take place on June 22 in New York.
Romero's last MMA fight was against Thiago Santos in February 2024 at the PFL Super Fights event, where he won by unanimous decision. His record now stands at 16 wins and seven losses.
Mousasi's most recent bout was against Fabian Edwards in May 2023 at Bellator 296. That fight also went the distance, resulting in a unanimous decision loss for Gegard. He currently holds a record of 49 wins, nine losses, and two draws.
