Brazilian UFC welterweight Maurício Rua shared his expectations for his upcoming fight with Ukrainian fighter Ihor Potieria, which will take place on January 21 at the UFC 283 tournament.
Maurício Rua
I have nothing to lose in this fight. Right now I don't aim to win and knockout, the main thing is to do my best, that's all. I don't demand wins and belts from myself anymore, I just demand to do my best. There's going to be a lot of pressure on Potieria, he's the one who has to win. Of course, I'm focused on performing and winning, too, but he's building a career in the UFC right now, and I'm getting ready to finish. This is definitely my last fight.
Rua, 41, is currently on a streak of two straight losses. In May 2022, he lost to Ovince Saint Preux by split decision at UFC 274. In November 2020, at UFC 255, Rua lost to Paul Craig by TKO in the second round. Maurício has 27 wins and 13 losses under his belt.
The 26-year old lost at UFC 277 in July, 2022, to Nikolai Negumereanu by TKO in the second round. Last September, he defeated Łukasz Sudolski by TKO in the first round at Dana White's Contender Series. Potieria has 19 wins and three losses under his belt.
