American fighter Dustin Poirier shared his thoughts on the upcoming bout between fellow American Michael Chandler and British fighter Paddy Pimblett, which is set for April 13 at UFC 314 in Miami, USA.
During an analytics show with Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen on ESPN, Poirier said:
Dustin Poirier
He’s been at the top of the lightweight conversation since he got into the UFC with his win over Dan Hooker. He’s been a staple for the last couple of years in the top five of the division, he can’t lose this fight. If he goes out there and wins this fight, OK, this guy maybe deserves to be in there, but he has to do something big after that. And for Paddy, if he beats Michael Chandler, now he’s fighting the top five.
Chandler last fought against Charles Oliveira in November 2024 at UFC 309, where he lost by unanimous decision after a fight that went the full distance. His record stands at 23 wins and nine losses.
Pimblett's most recent octagon appearance was against Bobby Green in July 2024 at UFC 304. That fight, which was stopped in the first round, concluded with Paddy winning by technical submission. His record features 22 wins and three losses.
