Former UFC bantamweight champion, Russian fighter Petr Yan, shared his thoughts on uppercuts following his victory over Brazilian Deiveson Figueiredo.
Petr Yan
Uppercuts are my favorite strikes. My coach and I have worked a lot on them. These punches are often unseen but very effective; they are hugely underrated in mixed martial arts, boxing, everywhere. It’s such a small, precise strike; it sends heads flying, snot flying all over the place. Beautiful, wouldn't you say?
On November 23, in Macau, China, Yan achieved victory over Figueiredo by unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Fight Night 248.
Prior to that, Yan stepped into the octagon in March 2024 at UFC 299, winning against Song Yadong by unanimous decision. His record now stands at 18 wins and 5 losses.
Figueiredo last fought in August 2024 at UFC on ABC 7, where he won against Marlon Vera by unanimous decision. His professional record has 24 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw.
