Former UFC bantamweight champion Julianna Peña commented on her withdrawal from her fight with current bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.
It was previously reported that Peña injured her ribs and Irene Aldana will replace her in the fight with Nunes.
Julianna Peña on her social media
You are never 100 percent healthy before a fight, but this time the doctors intervened and I had to withdraw from the fight. I trained hard and put my heart and soul into this camp to show you how important it is for me to get better. I wish Irene and Amanda a great fight. And I look forward to facing the winner to get my belt back.
Remember, the fight between Amanda Nunes and Irene Aldana will take place on June 10 in Vancouver, Canada, at UFC 289.
Aldana, 35, last competed at UFC 279 in September, 2022, beating Macy Chiasson by TKO in the third round. She has 14 wins and six losses under her belt.
Nunes, 34, defeated Julianna Peña by unanimous decision at UFC 277 in July 2022. She has 22 wins and five losses under her belt.
