UFC president Dana White announced that Julianna Peña broke her ribs and was forced to drop out of her bantamweight title fight against Amanda Nunes at UFC 289. Peña will be replaced by UFC bantamweight division number five Irene Aldana.
As you may recall, UFC 289 will take place on June 10 in Vancouver, Canada.
Aldana, 35, last competed at UFC 279 in September, 2022, when she stopped Macy Chiasson by TKO in the third round. She has 14 wins and six losses under her belt.
Nunes, 34, defeated Julianna Peña by unanimous decision at UFC 277 in July 2022. She has 22 wins and five losses under her belt.
