UFC bantamweight No. 2 Sean O'Malley explained why he agreed to a bet with division champion Aljamain Sterling, whom he will fight on August 20 at UFC 292.
Sean O'Malley at a press conference
We made a $100 bet on who would be the first to pull off the takedown. I messaged Sterling on social media after seeing him fight in Tennessee. He was nervous and I texted him that he didn't look good. And he offered to make a bet for a hundred bucks. That's a lot of money to him. For me, I f*cking sneeze out $100. That promise sure made him a little excited.
O'Malley, 28, had a bout against Petr Yan at UFC 280 in October 2022. In this confrontation, Sean won by split decision of judges. He has 16 wins and one loss on his record.
Sterling, 34, last entered the octagon against Henry Cejudo in May 2023 at UFC 288. That fight went the full distance and ended in Aljamain's favor by split decision of the judges. He has 23 wins and three losses on his record.
