Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira of Brazil said he has given up on the idea of appearing at UFC 283, which will be held on January 21 in Rio de Janeiro.
Charles Oliveira on the Super Lutas podcast
I really wanted to be a part of this UFC tournament and I really wanted to fight in Brazil, where I haven't fought in years. It would have been great to compete in this tournament against a good guy... But then my team and I decided it wasn't the right time, I needed to rest because of injuries. And besides, I wanted to spend time with my family.
Oliveira had his last fight against Russian Islam Makhachev in October of this year at UFC 280. In that fight, Charles was defeated via choking submission in the second round.
In May of this year, Oliveira was in the octagon against Justin Gaethje of the United States at UFC 274. That fight ended with Charles winning by choking submission in the first round. He has 33 wins and nine losses under his belt.
