American UFC welterweight fighter Michael Chiesa decided to withdraw from UFC 287, which will take place on April 8 in Miami.
Chiesa was originally scheduled to fight Li Jingliang, but the Chinese fighter was injured and pulled out of the fight. After that, the promotion's management attempted to find a new opponent for Chiesa.
Michael Chiesa
We wanted to stay on this card. I'm not going to name the guys who turned down the fight because some had visa problems and others had weight issues. I'd love to fight Gunnar Nelson. I'd even be willing to cross the ocean and fight him in England in July.
Chiesa, 35, is currently on a streak of two straight losses. He had his last fight in November 2021 at UFC Fight Night 198, losing to Sean Brady by unanimous decision of the judges. That August, Chiesa was defeated by Vicente Luque by first round choke at UFC 265. Chiesa has 22 wins and six losses under his belt.
