Matt Hamill, Deaf Fighter Who Defeated Jon Jones, Gains Hearing

Former UFC fighter Matt Hamill, 48, shared a post on social media announcing that he has regained his hearing thanks to new hearing aids.

Hamill has been deaf since birth. He is notably the only fighter to have defeated Jon Jones in his career, although that victory came via disqualification for an illegal strike. Additionally, a biographical film about Matt's life titled The Hammer was released in 2010.

Matt Hamill on his Instagram
I just got the most powerful digital hearing aids ever made. For the first time in 41 years, I can finally hear my kids’ voices, the sounds of people walking and laughing. I finally heard my mom’s voice and she cried. I’m looking forward to hearing my brother Pat’s voice too. I only hope he doesn’t have a voice like a foghorn. This is awesome although I know it will take time to adapt to all of this.

Hamill’s last fight took place in April 2018 at Maverick MMA 6, where he won against Chris Birchler via split decision. Overall, he has a record of 14 wins and eight losses.
