Sayat Abdrakhmanov, the manager of former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan, shared his thoughts about a potential rematch between the Russian fighter and the current champion of the division, Georgian fighter Merab Dvalishvili.
Will there be a title fight? A lot will depend on the UFC schedule, timing, and the availability of opponents. So, we will see. The most important thing is that Petr has made a strong statement and put his name in the contender pool. We'll keep an eye on how things go. Petr has done everything that was expected from him. Merab has also stated his desire. We’ll see.
It is worth noting that the fighters faced off in March 2023 at UFC Fight Night 221, with Dvalishvili winning by unanimous decision.
On November 23, at UFC Fight Night 248 in Macau (China), Petr Yan earned a unanimous decision victory over Deiveson Figueiredo. Before that, he was in the octagon in March 2024 at UFC 299, where he also won against Song Yadong by unanimous decision. Yan's professional record stands at 18 wins and five losses.
Merab Dvalishvili last fought in September 2024 at UFC 306, where he defeated Sean O'Malley by unanimous decision. His record currently shows 18 wins and four losses.
