Javier Mendez, coach of current UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, believes Paddy Pimblett has earned a shot at the title.
Javier Mendez on the Javier & Mo Show podcast
Paddy is ready to face anybody. I mean what he has done already, his credentials, his winning records in the UFC, his hype and what he can do, how he can motivate people. If they [UFC] give him the next title shot, he deserves it… He has a lot of fans. I have become a huge fan. He’s very interesting, and he’s got a whole England behind him.
Pimblett's last fight was against Michael Chandler on April 13 during UFC 314 in Miami. He won that match by technical knockout in the third round, bringing his record to 23 wins and three losses.
Makhachev last entered the Octagon against Renato Moicano in January of this year at UFC 311. In that first-round fight, Islam secured a victory via submission, successfully defending his championship belt. His record currently stands at 27 wins and one loss.
