UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev of Russia said when he might end his career.
Islam Makhachev
We have young fighters in the gym who compete in my weight class. As long as I can defeat them, as long as I feel like I'm bleeding, I'm going to perform. I'm not going to wait until my physique is weaker, until they start beating me. As soon as I realize that I'm not growing as a fighter - I'll end my career.
On October 22, at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi, Islam Makhachev defeated Charles Oliveira by submission (arm triangle choke) in the second round and became the UFC lightweight champion.
Makhachev defeated Bobby Green by TKO in the first round at UFC Fight Night 202 in February 2022.
Islam, 31, made his UFC debut under the UFC banner in May 2015 at UFC 187, defeating Leo Kuntz by submission (rear-naked choke) in the second round. He has 23 wins and one loss under his belt.
