On October 22, a high-profile UFC 280 tournament will be held in Abu Dhabi. In the main event of the evening Russian Islam Makhachev will fight against Brazilian Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title.
Oliveira, 33, defeated Justin Gaethje by first-round choke at UFC 274 in May. However, before the fight, the Brazilian failed the weigh-in, outweighing 200 grams. Because of this, the fight lost its championship status. In total, his record showed 33 wins and eight losses.

The 30-year-old Makhachev defeated Bobby Green by TKO in the first round at UFC Fight Night 202 in February, 2022. Prior to that, the Russian defeated Dan Hooker by submission. He has 22 wins and one loss under his belt.
