UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev shared his emotions after defeating Alex Volkanovski at the UFC 284 tournament, which took place on February 12 in Australia.

What were the mistakes in my fighting? Maybe there were a lot of little mistakes... I gave him a chance to work in the standup a little bit. And he has this unusual stance and unusual punches. There's a discussion of the fight now, like everybody expected me to win easily, like I did before, and the fight didn't turn out that easy. Volkanovski is not a street punk. He was the best fighter in the world. That's why it was such a tough fight.
"I totally agree with the decision, I'm happy with it. I got a lot out of this fight," Makhachev said, answering a question from Telecomasia.net correspondent Salam Umarov.
Recall, Makhachev won by unanimous decision of the judges.
Makhachev, 31, previously appeared in the Octagon in October 2022, at UFC 280, defeating Charles Oliveira by a choking hold in the second round. He has 24 wins and one loss under his belt.
