UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev responded to a question about whether he would consider Arman Tsarukyan as a role model for his children, given Tsarukyan's achievements in sports.
Makhachev stated at the press conference:
Islam Makhachev
I wouldn’t even call myself a role model for my own children. There are better people than us. MMA fighters are not the best examples for kids. There are many who lived before us and are far superior. I think they would be better role models. Arman is doing great. I've heard he comes from a rich family and has achieved remarkable success. It's usually difficult, and there are few people like him
For reference, Makhachev and Tsarukyan are set to face each other on January 19 in Los Angeles (USA) at UFC 311.
Tsarukyan last stepped into the octagon in April 2024 at UFC 300, winning a split decision against Charles Oliveira. He holds a record of 22 wins and three losses.
Makhachev’s last fight was in June 2024 at UFC 302, where he defeated Dustin Poirier via submission (D'Arce choke) in the fifth round. His record stands at 26 wins and one loss.
