Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier hinted at his desire to fight current champion Islam Makhachev on social media and asked the UFC to arrange the fight.

Makhachev left a comment with a handshake emoji under that post.
On March 10th, at UFC 299, Poirier knocked out Benoit Saint Denis in the second round.
The 32-year-old Makhachev last fought in the octagon in October 2023 at UFC 294, defeating Alexander Volkanovski by knockout in the first round in a rematch. He has 25 wins and one loss to his name. The 35-year-old Poirier has 30 wins and eight losses in his record.
