Former UFC lightweight champion and Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov spoke about when he plans to step away from mixed martial arts for good.
Khabib Nurmagomedov told ESPN journalist Brett Okamoto
When these guys finish, I’m going to finish. I hope it’s going to be very fast, I’m tired of all this... We’ve been on top of this game for like 7-8 years, since I became a champion. All these guys were with me, they were with my father when I was starting... There are still 6-8 [fighters competing] at a very high level. When they finish, I will finish too.
It’s also important to note that on January 19 in Los Angeles, USA, Umar Nurmagomedov will face the bantamweight champion, Georgian Merab Dvalishvili, as part of UFC 311. The event will be headlined by a lightweight rematch between Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan, with the championship belt on the line.
Khabib’s last fight was against American Justin Gaethje in October 2020 at UFC 254. This match was stopped in the second round, and Khabib won by technical submission. He boasts an impressive record of 29 wins with no defeats.
