UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev has ruled out the possibility of a third fight with Arman Tsarukyan, with whom he is set to have a rematch on January 19 in Los Angeles at UFC 311.

Third fight, I hope no. It doesn't make sense, three fights with the same guy. I think new generation will come. We'll have most dangerous division. The old guys – I believe this is one of the hardest weight classes not just in the UFC, but all of the sport. I need some new target.
It's worth noting that their first fight, which took place in April 2019 at UFC Fight Night 149, ended with Makhachev winning by unanimous decision.
Makhachev last fought in June 2024 at UFC 302, defeating Dustin Poirier via submission (D'Arce choke) in the fifth round. His record stands at 26 wins and one loss.
Tsarukyan last entered the octagon in April 2024 at UFC 300, earning a victory over Charles Oliveira by split decision. He holds a record of 22 wins and three losses.
