Current UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev commented on a possible fight against Justin Gaethje, who is set to face Dan Hooker on March 9 at UFC 313.
Islam Makhachev, quoted by The Sportster
Justin Gaethje? I like this idea because I haven't fought Justin yet... I've already fought [Oliveira and Arman], and preparing for the same opponent is not such a big motivation. But if Gaethje shows himself well in the next fight, we can meet.
Makhachev last fought against Brazilian Renato Moicano on January 19 in the main event of UFC 311 in Los Angeles. He won that bout by submission in the first round, successfully defending his championship title. His record stands at 27 wins and one loss.
Gaethje's last appearance in the octagon was against Max Holloway in April 2024 at UFC 300, where he suffered a knockout loss in the fifth round. He holds a record of 25 wins and five losses.
