In an exclusive interview with Telecomasia.net, former PFL champion Ali Isaev discussed the victory of his teammate Magomed Ankalaev in the title fight against Alex Pereira for the UFC championship.
Ali Isaev exclusively for Telecom Asia Sport
The atmosphere was serious. Everyone wanted him to become champion. We focused on Magomed's training for him to bring the title to our club. We cheered for him greatly. Finally, it worked out. We're very happy. I wish him to defend the title many times. I wouldn't say Ankalaev was fully prepared. He was sick and on antibiotics. He felt weak, but he pulled himself together and didn’t miss his chance. Magomed is young and strong. He can beat anyone; he has great potential. He is capable of holding the title for a long time.
Recall that on March 9 at UFC 313, Ankalaev won against Pereira by unanimous decision and became the new champion of the light heavyweight division. Magomed's record now stands at 20 wins, one loss, and one draw, with one fight deemed a no contest. Pereira has 12 wins and three losses.
