Former UFC champion in two weight divisions, Georges St-Pierre, discussed the illness that led to his decision to retire from mixed martial arts.
The Canadian revealed on Pound 4 Pound podcast:
Georges St-Pierre
The reason why I really retired is because it took a lot out of me, and I started developing a condition called ulcerative colitis. It’s an inflammation of the intestine and my last fight when I fought Bisping, I tried to eat, to gain weight, and I have a very hard time gaining weight. I forced myself to eat and maybe the doctor told me that’s probably why I developed that.
The 42-year-old St-Pierre's last fight was in November 2017 at UFC 217, where he defeated Michael Bisping by submission in the third round. On February 21, 2019, Georges announced his retirement from fighting, with 26 wins and two losses to his name.
