Geoff Neal: Makhachev Will Get Through a Lot of Welterweights, but I’ll Beat Him

American UFC veteran Geoff Neal shared his thoughts on the possibility of lightweight champion Islam Makhachev moving up to the welterweight division.

Geoff Neal for Sportskeeda
Islam’s prospects in the welterweight division? I feel like he'll be in the top ten for sure. As for becoming a champion or whatever... He's good enough. His wrestling's super good. He'll get through a lot of people but I'll beat his a**.

Makhachev last fought in January 2025 at UFC 311, where he defeated Renato Moicano with a submission in the first round. He boasts a record of 27 wins and one loss.

In October 2024, Neal secured a victory over Rafael dos Anjos via technical knockout in the first round at UFC 308. He currently holds a record of 16 wins and six losses.
