On September 30, former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling held a grappling bout against MMA fighter Mike Grundy, who is known for his freestyle wrestling skills, at Polaris 25.
The confrontation, which lasted all of the allotted ten minutes, ended with Sterling winning by decision.
Sterling commented on his win:
We have two high-level wrestlers, man. Sometimes it's gonna be like that - someone's gotta make the first mistake. So that's pretty much what it came down to.
Sterling last fought against Sean O'Malley in August 2023 at UFC 292. That fight ended with Aljamain's defeat by technical knockout in the second round. He has 23 wins and four losses on his record.
Grundy lost his last fight at UFC Fight Night 204 in March 2022 to Makwan Amirkhani by first-round choke. He has 12 wins and four losses on his record.
The next UFC 294 event will take place on October 21 in Abu Dhabi. The main event will feature Russian fighter Islam Makhachev and Brazilian Charles Oliveira.
