In an exclusive interview with Telecomasia.net, former coach of Arman Tsarukyan, Sergey Torosyan, expressed his confidence in Magomed Ankalaev's ability to defeat UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira.
I'm absolutely sure that in what will be a very close matchup, Ankalaev will be able to defeat him. Magomed is a massive threat in this weight class. He moves well, controls the distance, hits hard, and is an excellent wrestler. He is a challenging opponent for Pereira. I don't want to underestimate Pereira; he also has a strong strike and rich experience, but Ankalaev will be his kryptonite.
“If there’s no wrestling involved, Pereira will outstrike Ankalaev. However, if Magomed engages the Brazilian with wrestling and Alex becomes worried about double leg takedowns, then Ankalaev could really dominate him in striking exchanges. Pereira would only have the advantage if the fight is pure kickboxing," Torosyan explained.
To remind, Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev are set to face off at UFC 313, which will take place on the night of March 8-9. Throughout his MMA career, Ankalaev has achieved 18 wins and suffered one loss, while his opponent has recorded 12 wins and two losses.
