Diego Lopes, the third-ranked fighter in the UFC featherweight division from Brazil, has accepted former champion Alexander Volkanovski's offer to compete for an interim title.
Earlier, Volkanovski announced his intention to fight at the UFC 312 event in February against the winner of the title bout between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway. However, if the champion is unable to compete, he is prepared to face Lopes for the interim title.
February sounds good to me.
Lopes last entered the octagon in September 2024 at UFC 306, where he won a unanimous decision against Brian Ortega. He boasts an impressive record of 26 wins and six losses.
Volkanovski last fought in February 2024 at UFC 298, where he was defeated by Ilia Topuria via knockout in the second round. His record has 26 victories and four defeats.
