UFC President Dana White addressed the potential matchup between heavyweight champion Jon Jones and light heavyweight titleholder Alex Pereira.
White stated at the press conference following UFC 309:
No, you know what tonight told me. That there’s no f****** way I would make the [Jon Jones] versus Alex Pereira fight… Jon’s too big, a great wrestler – did you see how he took Stipe down in that first round?
Jones last fought against Stipe Miocic on November 17 at UFC 309 in New York. In that match, which was stopped in the third round, Jones won by technical knockout, successfully retaining his UFC heavyweight championship. His record stands at 28 wins and one loss, with another fight classified as a no contest.
Pereira's most recent fight took place against Khalil Rountree in October at UFC 307. This bout, which ended in the fourth round, also concluded with Pereira winning by technical knockout, allowing him to defend his UFC light heavyweight title. His record boasts 12 wins and two losses.
