UFC president Dana White commented on the information that the bout of the promotion's former dual champion Conor McGregor against Michael Chandler will take place on December 16 at UFC 296.

Chandler last fought against Dustin Poirier in November 2022 at UFC 281. In that confrontation, Michael was defeated by a choking submission in the third round. He has 23 wins and eight losses on his record.
McGregor last went into the octagon against the same Poirier in July 2021 at UFC 264. Conor lost this fight by technical knockout after breaking his leg. He has 22 wins and six defeats on his record.
