UFC President Dana White has announced that Spanish fighter Ilia Topuria is moving up from featherweight to lightweight, where the current champion is Russian Islam Makhachev.

Topuria felt like he's done all that he can in that division and he feels like he cemented his legacy and his body cannot make the weight anymore. So Topuria will be moving up to 155lb, and will be vacating the featherweight title.

Topuria's last fight took place in October 2024 at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi, where he faced American fighter Max Holloway. Ilia secured a victory in that fight by knockout in the third round. He currently boasts an impressive record of 16 wins and no losses in mixed martial arts.
