UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier reacted to heavyweight champion Jon Jones' desire to fight against Alex Pereira.
Cormier was quoted as saying by MMA Fighting:
Not everybody hits like Francis Ngannou or Alex Pereira, but if you can get away from that and manage that, it's much less risky than fighting a guy with a full skillset that's complete. That's exactly what Tom Aspinall looks to be. I love what Jon is doing in terms of being smart, finding the right matchup.
Jones, 36, faced Frenchman Ciryl Gane in his last fight, which took place at UFC 285 in March 2023. Jones won that bout by submission (guillotine choke) in the first round. He has 27 wins and one loss on his record.
Aspinall, 31, last stepped into the octagon in November 2023 at UFC 295, defeating Sergei Pavlovich by first-round knockout. He has 14 wins and three losses on his record.
Pereira, 36, last fought against Jamahal Hill on 14 April at UFC 300 in Las Vegas. In that fight, which was stopped in the first round, Alex won by technical knockout and defended his championship belt.
