American UFC fighter Colby Covington revealed that matchmakers for the promotion attempted to arrange a fight for him against fellow American Dustin Poirier at UFC 309, scheduled for the night of November 17 in New York (USA).

UFC's approached me with it, but they know I've always been on board. But you know, Dustin was even going to get a pay raise, double what he normally gets, and still turned it down. He said, 'Nah, I'm never fighting Colby. I'm not going to let him make any money.'
Covington last fought Leon Edwards in December 2023 at UFC 296. In that match, which went the distance, Colby lost by unanimous decision. His record now stands at 17 wins and four losses.
Poirier last stepped into the octagon against Islam Makhachev in June of this year at UFC 302. This fight, which was stopped in the fifth round, ended in a loss for Dustin by submission. His career record includes 30 wins, nine losses, and one no contest.
