Khamzat Chimaev for MMA news
When things turn against you, your energy goes into a slump and then you get blamed for everything. The fans start saying, 'He's never going to be a champion. He'll never do this or that." In those cases, I get mad and try to prove to them that I can do it. They're just fans. They're not my family. They don't live with me and their opinions are their problem. I'm just doing my job. It doesn't matter what they say. I just go in the cage and take my opponents apart. They can't help it when I beat the guy they love.
The 28-year-old Chimaev last fought in the co-main event of UFC 279. His opponent then was American Kevin Holland. Their confrontation took place at interim weight, as the Chechen couldn't meet the welterweight limit for the fight against Nate Diaz. Chimaev defeated Holland by a choke in the first round.
In April of this year, Khamzat entered the UFC 273 octagon, where he was opposed by Brazilian Gilbert Burns. The fight ended with Chimaev's victory by unanimous decision of the judges On his account he had 12 wins and no defeats.
